It happens every October. You remind yourself that you need to pick up some Halloween candy and then life happens and you forget until WHAM Halloween has arrived and you’re rushing to the store to pick up whatever you can get your hands on and the shelves are empty except for that lone bag of boxed raisins
Americans love Halloween. In fact, this October 31st holiday is second to Christmas as far as spending money. In spite of a frightening economy, Americans are expected to spend 6.9 billion on Halloween this year alone.
I was having a conversation last night with one of the few people that I know, that has lived all his life in the Binghamton area, and never visited the Spiediefest and Balloon Rally. How could that be? I suppose it's possible but why would one miss the Southern Tier's best festival year after year?
I have many friends that own local businesses in the Southern Tier. From time to time they talk about how tough it is to compete with the big box stores that sometimes offer an inferior product for a couple of dollars less.
