I've eaten many meals with Glenn Pitcher and have seen how capable he is of packing away food, but on Saturday, I got to watch him chow down competition style. Lucky girl, huh?

It's the 44th annual Central NY Maple Festival in Marathon this Saturday and Sunday. It all starts Saturday morning at 9 with a Pancake Eating contest. I'll be there eating pancakes like I'm on a timer......that's because I will be.

Binghamton Restaurant Week, April 1-10 is one incredible idea that was started a few years back.  It's a great way to sample restaurants you may not be familiar with or restaurants you may not have visited in a while.  Not only does it benefit your appetite but also local charities.  A portion of the proceeds benefit VINES as well as the Binghamton Boys and Girls Clubs.

Paying the Winter heating bills this season has been been a great challenge for many of us including local animal shelters like Project Paw.  What makes it even more tough for shelter is they don't receive funding from the county, city or state, like some other local shelters do. April 6-12, 2014 is National Volunteer Week, a week dedicated to inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to find imaginative ways to get involved in their communities. It’s about showing that by working together, we have the strength to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.

You probably remember the story of 9-year-old ArleighLynn Hurd of Owego who planned to shave her head bald to help raise money for childhood cancer research and the heat she was getting from kids and adults alike who told her she'd be ugly without hair, right?

So, why would 66-year old body builder/ actor / ex-California Governor crush things with a tank?  Two reasons.  He can.  The other, he wants to help After School All-Stars, a program that Arnold heads, that keeps kids safe, and helps them succeed in school and in life.

The sister of one of my very best friends fought like a champion and kicked cancer's butt, but she wouldn't have had the courage to fight had it not been for the community who rallied around her. I think we all need to share love and support because we never know when it'll come back to us.

Over 25 Chenango County restaurants will donate a gallon of their best soup to support the Chenango County Habitat for Humanity's third annual Soup-er Bowl fundraiser this  Saturday, March 14th from 4pm-6pm at the Norwich Family YMCA.

Today it was 47 degrees outside the HAWK Studios in Downtown Binghamton.  Cabin fever has been high in the Greater Binghamton area.  But the countdown is on.  Soon, we will be welcoming Spring to the Southern Tier.  Golfers are thinking about dusting off their clubs and buying up the Clubhouse Card, while gardeners are thinking about flowers.
