As a mom to a one-year-old and a woman who loves kids, car seat safety is something  very important to me. Taking a few extra minutes to make sure your little one is properly strapped in and that the seat is safely installed in your car can mean the difference between life and death.

According to SeatCheck, 96% of people with a car seat in their vehicle think that the seat is correctly installed, but in reality, 7 out of 10 car seats are not installed the right way.

If you've got a little one who travels in your vehicle in a car seat, please take the time to make sure that the seat is installed properly. As a matter of fact, there will be a car seat safety check at SUNY Broome on Saturday, April 2nd as part of their 36th Annual Children's Fair.

The fair runs from 10am-2pm at SUNY Broome's Community College Student Center. In addition to a car seat checks, there will be hands on activities for your kids, gymnastics, a creative station, trucks, displays for the parents, basket raffles, a Scholastic Book Fair and much more.

Admission fees will be collected and all money raised will support the Broome Educator of Children Association initiatives and community outreach.

If you can't make the Children's Fair, you can have your car seat checked at the Broome County Sheriff's Office or at the Endicott Police/Fire Department. The Broome County Sheriff's Office checks car seats on the third Tuesday of every month from 1pm-5pm, but an appointment is necessary. To schedule an appointment, call Christine Muss at 607- 778-2807.  The Endicott Police/Fire Department takes a look at seats on Tuesdays from 8am-3pm. Reach out to Sgt. Laurie Sorensen at 607-757-2471 to schedule an appointment.
