Broome to Auction Dozens of Seized Properties

Nearly 80 Broome County properties seized for unpaid taxes will be available for sale at an upcoming auction.

The tax foreclosure properties include single-family homes, apartment buildings and vacant lots.

The auction will be held at the Holiday Inn on Hawley Street in Binghamton starting at 10 a.m. July 23.

County real property director David Hamlin said the properties will be sold on an "as is" basis.

Hamlin said prospective buyers should carefully examine any parcel because of possible code violations that will become the responsibility of a new owner.

Older houses may contain lead-based paint, which can result in potential health hazards if appropriate action isn't taken.
