Broome Overdose Deaths Approach 5 Dozen

The Broome County District Attorney is issuing a Public Health Alert for the county as five more drug overdose deaths have been confirmed over the last week of August.

DA Steve Cornwell says the total drug overdose deaths so far this year now stands at 58.

Meanwhile, Operation Safe Families of Broome County and Truth Pharm hosted a drug awareness walk and demonstration in downtown Binghamton for International Overdose Awareness Day August 31.

Organizers say families who have lost loved ones to drugs need to know that they should not be afraid to ask for help.

The event also served to put a face on the statistics and remind the community that people of all ages and all walks of life are being affected by the overdose epidemic.
