In November of 2014, Binghamton Mayor Rich David put our city on the map by being the first in the United States to shelter all identified homeless veterans, which is an amazing accomplishment that other cities are striving to achieve.
Unfortunately there are still many veterans in our area who still need help.
The United Way of Broome County has joined forces with the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group in an attempt to not only raise awareness of the needs of our veterans but also to gather new, small, cold-weather items as well as personal hygiene items.
What exactly is a small, cold-weather item? That would be things like scarves, hats, socks, gloves and small articles of clothes that keep a person warm. As for personal hygiene items, they’re looking for toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors and shampoo/conditioner and body soap. Gift cards for groceries and gas are also welcome.
If you’d like to help share some love to local vets, you’ve got until January 30th to participate. Participation is easy- simply pick up a cold-weather or hygiene item and drop it off at one of these locations:
  • Veteran Services Office, BU Main Campus, University Union, Room 256
  • United Way of Broome County, 101 Jensen Road, Vestal
  • Miller Auto Team 4455 Vestal Parkway East
If you made a resolution to show more kindness to others in 2015, this is a great way to kick off your resolution!
