Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Cancer is an awful disease. When I hear about someone diagnosed with cancer the first thing I think of isn't of their political affiliation or their life status or anything else. I think of them as a human and the emotions they must struggle with as they try to make sense of it all.

In a press conference yesterday morning, Broome County Executive Debbie Preston revealed that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer.  Debbie explained that this diagnosis follows two months of tests and that she's working with her doctors to decide what the best course of treatment will be.

She said Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City will determine and schedule treatment procedures.  She said she believes treatment will begin within the next two weeks.Read More: Broome County Executive Debra Preston Diagnosed With Lung Cancer | http://wnbf.com/broome-county-executive-debra-preston-diagnosed-with-lung-cancer/?trackback=tsmclip

Debbie made it very clear that she is not dying nor is she leaving office and that she will remain in constant contact with her staff while receiving treatment.

My thoughts and prayers are with Debbie and with each person fighting cancer. I've never fought this disease, but I watched my Dad fight it and it breaks my heart. Remember-no matter what your political opinions are- people are people at the root of it all.
