The signs are up and it's official. The I-81 north and south bridges over Castle Creek Road have officially been named the 'Christopher G. Skinner Memorial Bridges.'

The memorial was announced earlier this year and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. It became official on Monday.

Trooper Skinner was run down by a Florida resident near the bridges named in his memory on May 29,2014 as he was conducting a routine traffic stop on the side of the road.

Police say that 61-year-old Almond Upton intentionally swerved out of his lane in order to hit Trooper Skinner. Upton will stand trial in November for first degree murder in Skinner's death.

Skinner was a 1989 graduate of Chenango Valley High School and was an member of the Broome County Farm Bureau. Skinner also devoted 22 years of service to the Five Mile Point Fire department. Skinner and his fiance, Surrena, planned to be married on July 19, 2014.
