Brewery Celebrates 50 Years of ‘Star Trek’ with Klingon Beer
I grew up in a crazy strict house. We were really poor so frivolous things were put on the back burner so we could, you know, keep the electric on and stuff.
It wasn't until I was 12-years-old that we even had a television set in our home and can I just tell you, our TV was futuristic. Literally. I have no idea where it came from, but our first TV looked like an astronaut helmet. It was white with a black screen area and only showed the picture in black and white. This was in the 1990's, mind you. Color television had definitely been invented at that point, but we didn't care. We were just happy to finally have a TV. Until our happiness was squashed.
Remember how I said I grew up in a really strict home? I wasn't kidding. We were only allowed to watch one show at that was 'Star Trek.' That might seem like an odd show to be allowed to watch, but it had everything to do with the fact my mom had the hots for William Shatner, a fact I didn't learn until I was much older.
I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie by any means, but I do know of the show and if my mom drank beer (she doesn’t), I’d run up the street from her house and pick up some of this Klingon Imperial Porter for her and raise a toast to my childhood. And to William Shatner.
The Shmaltz Brewing Company is located in Clifton Park, New York, about 10 minutes or so outside of Albany and they're celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek by selling 'Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter' and I have a feeling legit Trekkies will be falling all over themselves to get their hands on this stuff.
The Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter has an alcohol contest of 7.3%, which makes it the perfect beer to toast some of the strongest of all the warriors in the galaxy.
