Michelle Zelenyak of Binghamton is a wife, mother, loyal friend and a fighter.

Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer in August of last year and during the first week of October, Michelle underwent a double mastectomy at Sloan Kettering in New York City. Since returning home, Michelle has continued to undergo treatments to fight her cancer.

According to the Breast Cancer Benefit for Michelle Zelenyak Facebook page, Michelle underwent her second round of reconstructive surgery this past Tuesday. Michelle's doctor said the surgery went well and that she should heal with no problems.

In the midst of all of this, Michelle has not only continued to work, but found a way to be on the sidelines to cheer on her twins as they played their senior year of soccer for Susquehanna Valley.

"She is just always there for us, for me, my sister, the team," son Dominick Zelenyak told WBNG. "She is just a great person."

"She is an awesome mom, she is a great mom, she does everything she can for her kids," Rosemary said. "She was coming into senior year to be here for me and Dom, for us to have the best senior year ever, so having this happen to her was a setback, but she is positive."

Hawk listener Alecia Victoria, one of Michelle’s co-workers told me “she [Michelle] is a great role model to me and she has been nothing but optimistic and strong trough this whole situation. She is a fighter and the bravest person I know.”

To show their appreciation for all she's been through and how hard she's fought,  Michelle’s family and friends are holding a benefit to help offset some of her mounting medical bills. If you’d like to love on this local woman and her family to let them know they're not alone in this fight, please make plans to carve a little time out of your day this Sunday, January 12th at the Parish of Saints John and Andrew at 7 Livingston Street in Binghamton from 2pm-4pm.
