Breaking News: Randy Travis In Critical Condition

July 9, 2013, 9:45am update: According to TMZ, the people closest to Randy Travis are extremely worried about the singer's condition with sources telling TMZ his health had declined pretty rapidly in recent days after coming down with what he initially thought was a bad cold. People Magazine reports Randy's sister told them that he had emergency heart surgery yesterday.

According to several sources, Randy Travis has been hospitalized and is in critical condition due to a heart problem.  We’ve just learned that he was admitted to a Texas hospital on Sunday.

According to his publicist, Travis was recently diagnosed with a viral cardiomyopathy and the hospitalization is a result of complications. According to the Mayo Clinic, a viral cardiomyopathy is a virus that weakens the heart. The severity can vary, and further details about Travis’ case were not made available.

Randy’s health problems come after months of legal and personal problems. Randy had a tough year in 2012 with arrests for assault and pubic intoxication.

Since 1985, Randy has recorded 20 studio albums and charted more than 50 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, and 16 of these were number one hits.
