You've probably driven by it a dozen times- the humble looking building located at 770 Harry L. Drive in Johnson City. And you've probably not given that building much thought because it looks like just another area day care, right? Wrong!

That building you drive by all the time is known as Mom’s House and is so much more than just another day care center. Mom’s House is a building built on the foundation of love, caring, and the desire to help the children of today and their parent’s to see a brighter future for tomorrow and days to come. Mom’s House has been described as, “Mom’s House is much more than a day care, it is a home, a family, and love.”

Mom’s house was established in Johnstown in 1983 and has since spread to four states with seven individual active establishments. The idea behind Mom’s House is to provide free childcare to low-income single parents who are enrolled in school full-time. This enables a single parent the chance to succeed, gain an education and establish a life for their family all while being flooded with love by volunteers and other participating families. Single parents are provided with support networks that aid in completing higher education, providing jobs and getting parents off of welfare. Volunteers can be seen working tirelessly playing with children, feeding the children, cleaning the building, but most importantly giving parents the gift of time.

You might find your self asking, “How can I help?” and the answer is as easy as having breakfast with Santa. Saturday December 6th, the Endwell United Methodist Church at  3301 Watson Boulevard in Endwell is holding a breakfast charity event to help fund Mom’s House. The event starts at 8am and goes until 11am. Tickets will be available at the door and prices are as follows: adult tickets are $6, children ages 5-12 years are $4 and children under 5 years of age are free.
