Never mind the expense of shelling out all that cash to see a movie or the fact that once you get there, filling your stomach with popcorn can be more expensive than filling your Ford with gasoline, there's something about going to the movies that makes it fun.

The prestigious '85th Annual Academy Awards' or Oscar as they call them, are tonight at 7 on ABC.

This year's telecast has a certain excitement, especially with in the category of Best Actress, with all the heavy hitters sitting this one out.  For the first time in many years, there's not a big name like Meryl Streep in this category. But instead, there is a refreshing new list of nominees including: Jessica Chastain, "Zero Dark Thirty," Jennifer Lawrence, "Silver Linings Playbook," Emmanuelle Riva, "Amour, " Quvenzhane Wallis, "Beasts of the Southern Wild," and Naomi Watts, "The Impossible."

All eyes will be on first time nominees inclding Hugh Jackman, Emmanuelle Riva, Bradley Cooper, and the amazing Quvenzhane Wallis, the youngest nominee ever and my vote for Best Actress. But then again, I always vote for the underdog.

This has been a big year for Hollywood with ticket sales on the upswing.  Could it be that Hollywood finally gets it that Hollywood is hearing the fact that we don't want to see remakes, and film goers are starved for original films?  I can only hope.
