The new MacArthur Elementary School on Binghamton's South Side is almost ready for hundreds of students and teachers.

Students in grades three through five will move back to the Vestal Avenue site November 30. That will be 1,545 days since classes were last held on the site on September 7, 2011. That was the first day of a new school year when the rain that destroyed the old MacArthur School started to fall.

Children in kindergarten through second grade are scheduled to start classes in the new school on January 4.

The new school was expected to cost $79.5 million. Binghamton City School District officials say the project will come in under budget.
