A man opened fire at a Virginia Greyhound bus station on Thursday afternoon, killing  Trooper Chad Dermyer and injuring two civilians, including a Binghamton University student.

According to WBNG, a female member of the Binghamton University track team was one of the two injured in the shooting.  Binghamton University's Pipe Dream has identified the student as Sarah Haley, a junior pole-vaulter.

A statement on the school's website reads,

At about 4 p.m. today, Thursday, March 31, the Binghamton University Athletics Department learned that a female member of the track team was injured in a random shooting at the Richmond, Va. Greyhound bus station while en route to a track meet at William and Mary. Her injuries are not life threatening. The campus has been in touch with the student’s parents and has arranged for counselors to be available to the student and her fellow student-athletes.

According to NBC News, state police were finishing a counter-drug training session where a portion of the training involved questioning civilians. When a uniformed state trooper approached the shooter at the bus station entrance, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the officer, according to Virginia State Police Spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

Two officers returned gunfire and fatally wounded the suspect, who died after he was transported to a local hospital.
