Binghamton U Plans New R&D Facility in Johnson City

Another building is expected to be constructed on Binghamton University's future health sciences campus in Johnson City.

University President Harvey Stenger said plans are moving forward on a research and development facility.

The structure is to be built at Corliss Avenue and Willow Street, just east of the building that will house the university's new pharmacy school.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Stenger said funding for the project was included in the recently-adopted state budget.

Some of the money for the $15 million research and development building will come from past appropriations for other proposed projects.

Stenger said the plans call for a 15,000 to 20,000 square-foot structure. He said design work for the project could take a year and construction likely would run about two years. That would result in a completion date around 2020.

The university School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences building is expected to open in the summer of 2018. The Decker School of Nursing is to be moved from the Vestal campus to a renovated Corliss Avenue building the following year.
