Binghamton Starts New Round of Demolitions

Four abandoned buildings on Binghamton's South Side are being torn down as the city continues a program to take down structures no longer in use.

A pair of two-family apartment houses on the south end of Tremont Avenue are part of the new round of demolitions.

The buildings at 20 and 22 Tremont Avenue have been empty for a long time. Doors and windows in the houses have been broken. Holes had been punched through walls and other significant damage inside the buildings was visible during a visit to the properties shortly before the demolition work began.

Mounds of rotting garbage were piled outside the buildings as a few neighborhood children played nearby. The kids expressed delight that the rundown structures would soon be gone and the properties would be cleared.

Other South Side eyesores being demolished are empty houses at 14 Livingston Street and 32 Delmar Street.
