Jury selection began this week in the re-trial of Aaron Powell in Broome County Court.

Powell had been convicted of murdering 35-year-old Christina Powell and 24-year-old Mario Masciarelli in March of 2013 at the woman’s home but a new trial was ordered due to a conflict of interest involving one of the original jurors who had worked at a law firm that had handled Christina and Aaron’s divorce and child custody cases.

He was sentenced to life without parole in the original conviction.

The latest trial is expected to last six weeks.

Powell was accused of brutally bludgeoning Christina and strangling Masciarelli with electrical wire in the woman’s home on Lisi Lane in the Town of Binghamton.
