A 27-year-old Binghamton man has been indicted on murder and three other felony counts in connection with a deadly shooting on the city's West Side.

Police said Nicholas Chappell was taken into custody shortly after he shot two men August 31 at his home at 1 Mozart Street.

A Broome County grand jury Wednesday handed up the indictment of Chappell. He faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder. He also was indicted on counts of first-degree assault and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Investigators said Chappell fatally shot 23-year-old David Sanborn of Whitney Point. He also wounded 26-year-old Jordan Doolittle of Windsor. Doolittle, despite being critically injured, restrained Chappell in a head lock after the shooting.

Doolittle had lived at the Mozart Street residence with Chappell. He had moved out but he returned with Sanborn to retrieve some of his belongings.
