Police have made an arrest in connection with an execution-style shooting of a Binghamton man on the city's West Side.

Authorities say 26-year-old Jihad Ray of Binghamton has been charged with second-degree murder.

Investigators say Ray is suspected of repeatedly shooting 22-year-old Brandon Hernandez of Binghamton around 4:55 a.m. on April 22. Hernandez was shot repeatedly in the head at close range in the parking lot of an after-hours club at 56 Orton Avenue.

Detectives say Ray was taken into custody Friday afternoon. The Metro SWAT team assisted city police in executing a search warrant around 3 p.m. at Ray's residence on Chamberlain Street on the East Side.

Officials say Ray was taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail.

Police say the investigation is continuing into the Hernandez shooting. They have not indicated whether Ray may face additional charges or whether more arrests are anticipated.

Detectives also are investigating the killing of a man on Fayette Street, less than four blocks from NYSEG Stadium. The man who died reportedly was shot in the head and in the heart around 8:30 p.m. Friday as baseball fans attended a Binghamton Rumble Ponies game. No arrests have been reported in that shooting.
