A 37-year-old Binghamton man has been found not guilty of charges in connection with the 2013 death of a man on the city's South Side.

A Broome County court jury on June 12 acquitted Calvin Bell. He was on trial on murder and robbery counts.

Bell was one of two suspects authorities said were responsible for the death of 44-year-old Bretnie Owens, whose body was found in his Stone Street apartment in June 2013.

The jury's verdict was announced late Friday morning. The panel began its deliberations on Wednesday.

The second defendant in the case - 41-year-old Nigel Smith - is scheduled to go on trial on murder and robbery charges later this month.
