Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Members of city council are expected to discuss a plan to purchase dozens of body cameras for use by Binghamton police officers.

During this evening's work session, lawmakers also plan to consider a proposal to acquire computer software to streamline data collection when people are stopped by police.

Mayor Richard David has issued an executive order that calls for the use of body cameras by officers. The order also includes a provision aimed at simplifying the data entry process for officers.

The mayor is proposing spending $116,000 to purchase 90 cameras for police officers, along with a support package for the program.

David also is calling for the purchase of the data collection equipment for a cost of about $30,000.
