My son's first birthday came and went and we didn't really do anything special for John outside of a smash cake. I still feel horrible because a baby's first birthday is supposed to be something special, but my husband and I had no clue what to do because in February, it was too cold to hold a party outdoors and we definitely didn't want people dragging slush and rock-salt on to our hardwood floors.

And so, we did nothing. I wish I'd known then about the party options that the YMCA of Broome County offers instead of skipping over a first birthday party for John.

All the time I see friends on Facebook asking for birthday party location ideas for their kids that won't cost them an insane amount of money, and most people (like me) don't know that the YMCA of Broome County offers special splash parties.

Splash parties are fun for people of all ages and are held at the Binghamton Y on Saturdays from 5pm-7pm and Sundays from 3:30pm-6pm as well as at the West Family Y in Johnson City on Saturdays from 3:30pm-8:30pm and Sundays from 1pm-8pm.

Splash parties are just what they sound like- a fun hour of swimming, followed by an hour in the YMCA's game room. Up to 40 people can swim under the careful watch of two certified lifeguards. And, when you move into the game room, you'll have access to the multipurpose room, including tables, chairs, and the refrigerator and freezer in the kitchen area.

The best part? These parties for up to 40 people cost less than $200, even if you're not a member of the YMCA!  Want more? Read out to Brenda at 607-772-9622, extension 406.

If you’d like to join the YMCA of Broome County, stop into either branch before November 12, 2016, and drop my name. When you tell them I sent you, they’ll waive your $50 joiner fee!
