Champions!!!! That's what the Binghamton Bearcats women's softball team are! They defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves twice May 9 to win the America East Softball Championship at Stony Brook. The Bearcats won the first game 5-2  to put them into the title game.  Then they defeated the Seawolves 9-3 to earn their first America East Softball Championship.

In the first game the Bearcats used a four-run second inning en route to a 5-2 decision.  That set the stage for the game that would decide the conference champion and give the winner an automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

In the deciding game the Bearcats used a five-run sixth inning to pull away from the Seawolves and secure the conference crown and the first ever NCAA Tournament bid at the Division I level.  The Binghamton Colonials played in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments at the Division III level.

In the big five-run sixth Senior shortstop Caytlin Friise drove in a pair of runs with a double and junior right fielder Sydney Harbaugh smacked an opposite field home run to drive in three more runs. Harbaugh was named to the All-Championship team along with teammates Lisa Cadogan, Friis and Sarah Miller.  Miller, a freshman pitcher, earned all four Bearcat wins in the tournament.  She was also named the Most Outstanding Player in the tournament.

The Bearcats will find out who they play and where May 10.  The NCAA selection show will air on ESPNU at 10 p.m.
