It's not Times Square but that's okay. This way you don't have to fight traffic or squeeze in with a million other people.

I'm talking about the Binghamton Ball Drop downtown on New Year's Eve.

On New Year's Eve, State Street from Henry to Lewis Street will be blocked off to traffic. That way people can come and enjoy the entertainment, and at midnight, see the ball drop along with fireworks.

It'll be a ball that's 6 foot in diameter with more than 5,000 lights. It'll drop about 70 feet. The ball drop hasn't happened in Binghamton before so you can be part of something special.

They are hoping to make this an annual event with a band, multiple DJs and drinks. It's going on from 9p-1a.

Anyone can come see the ball drop, but to get into the closed-off event with food, drinks and entertainment, there is a cost. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

It'll be like a big block party. The business owners are finding ways to keep people local and this likes a good one. So let me help you with your New Year's Eve plans.

Enjoy the traditional New Year's game with the Binghamton Senators at 6. Then stick around for the first Binghamton ball drop. Sounds like a great way to end 2015 to me.
