New York State Department of Transportation and City of Binghamton officials report a couple big road projects are nearing completion.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says Riverside Drive is on track to be reopened by November. A good portion of the road between Front and Beethoven Streets will remain closed for another three weeks.

That area is being completely reconstructed.  In addition to milling and paving the street, sidewalks, curbs, water and sewer systems and sanitary lines are all being reconstructed or replaced.

The DOT says the reconstruction of the Vestal Parkway is about 30-33% complete. That repaving work is to be finished by the end of the year with most of the work on the busiest portion being done at night.

Motorists for now, however can still expect drop-offs of the road surface at intersections, ramps and business entrances.

The Prospect Mountain project that is a major reconfiguration of Route 17 and the interchange with Interstate 81 is a long-term undertaking.

D-O-T spokesman David Hamburg says work on that project will not be packed away during the winter. But it will be scaled down from what motorists have been seeing over the warmer months.

Updates on that project area are available at www.511ny.org.
