The holiday season is literally biting at our heels and with it comes lots of gatherings with friends and family, and lots of food too. Want a simple way to cut 500 calorie a day?

The solution is simple- eat on a smaller plate.

A study by the University of Cambridge in England found that people consume more food when we're served on large plates. We also drink more when the glasses are bigger. Obviously, right? You'd think since we know plates and glasses are on the bigger side we'd be able to control ourselves, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that we simply fill up the space we're given and get to chowing down.

But seriously- if you're trying to watch what you eat, consider asking for a smaller plate and if that's not an option, try not putting enough food on the larger plate to fill it up and see how this works for you. There's nothing worse than spending the whole summer working hard on slimming down and getting toned, only to have it all washed away by overeating at holiday gatherings.
