The Chenango Fire Company, along with friends and family of Russ and Jodi Carey, are holding a benefit to help them get back on their feet after a devastating fire destroyed their home and they lost their 3 canine companions.

On Friday, April 18th, the sound of pagers alerted the Fire Company to a house fire in the town of Barker. When they arrived, they were devastated to find out it was the home of one of their own. The Carey's were out of town but the canine companions were still there.

Unfortunately all their efforts to save them were not enough. The fire claimed all 3 dogs and the home was a total and complete loss.

Russell and Jodi have served the community for 18 years as volunteer firefighters of the Chenango Fire Company. Russ is also a 911 Emergency Services Dispatcher and Jodi serves Opportunities for Broome as a Head Start Director.

On Saturday, the family and fire family members will be holding a benefit for them at the Chenango Fire Station 2, 1096 Castle Creek Road in Castle Creek from 3-7pm. It's a spaghetti dinner with a concert by Melanie and the Boys. Raffles, bake sale and more.
