In January of this year, the lives of Broome County Highway Patrol Deputy Steve Blackman, his wife Kayla and daughter Alivia were forever changed. Steve was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Although he felt terrible, Steve, an eight year employee with the Broome County Sheriff's Office worked until he simply wasn't able to work anymore to provide for his family as well as to keep his community and coworkers safe.

Steve has completed 8 of 12 chemotherapy treatments and is responding very well, but these treatments require him to travel a long distance and those trips are definitely adding to the physical and financial strain that Steve and his family are facing.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as Steve’s friends and family, have organized a benefit to help offset some of the expenses the Blackman family has found heaped on their plate these past few months.

The Steve Blackman Benefit will be held on Saturday, August 15th at Klumpp Park in Windsor with a chicken BBQ hosted by the Harpursville Fire Department. There will also be music, raffles with prizes from local and national companies and more. The main event will be a kickball tournament. While registration has closed, you're welcome to bring a chair and cheer as teams from all over New York State play!

The chicken BBQ will be served 12pm-4pm and the kickball tournament will start at 1pm. All of the other activities will continue through the day. Chicken BBQ dinners will be $10 per person. To learn more, send an email to SteveBlackmanBenefit@Gmail.com.

If you’d like to support the Blackman family, but aren’t able to attend the benefit, a GoFundMe page has been created to accept online donations.
