When I think of the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, many things come to mind. Great country concerts, the butter sculpture and 25 cent milk. The motto for the Great New York State Fair this year is "Lots of New, Tons of Tradition."

It's the same tradition of great country shows but in a new location, the Lakeview Amphitheater. The butter sculpture is always new but it's a tradition to not know what it is until the Fair opens.

But the thing I look forward too the most is the quarter milk. Since 1983, it's been a tradition to pay only 2 dimes and a nickel to have my choice of white or chocolate.

So what's new with the milk? The price is going to increase. WHAT??? NO!!!!

Wait, not so fast.  The New York State Dairy Exhibits said that they have held off from raising the price for many years. Dwindling cash reserves and increasing operating costs have necessitated an increase.

In fact, they were going to double the price to 50 cents beginning this year. Governor Andrew Cuomo's office will use $90,000 from fair revenues to subsidize the milk bar and keep it at 25 cents.

Quarter milk, that's a tradition worth keeping.  The Great New York State Fair runs through September 5th.
