Wow, how time flies! I can't believe that it's been a year since Tajiri was born. Who? You remember April the giraffe from Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville? Of course, we all do, in fact at one time over 2 million people were watching and waiting for her to give birth.

We would watch the giraffe cam at home and at work, even some bars were showing it on their TV's. With breathless anticipation we were waiting for it's birth and finally on the morning of Saturday, April 15th at 9:53 a.m. Oliver became a proud new papa.

Many of us even remember where we were when he was born. I was in the kitchen making a strawberry pop tart when I heard a yell to "come to the computer right now."

Eventually the calf was named Tajiri which is Swahili for "hope" or "confidence." He is now about 10 feet tall and eating solid food. He could be fully weaned from his mother soon and when that happens, April and Tajiri will be separated and he may have to go to a new home.

Animal Adventure Park is planning on opening up for the season on Wednesday, May 16th and is located at 85 Martin Hill Road in Harpursville. You may want to stop by early in the season to see Tajiri.

Go here to keep up to date with April, Oliver and Tajiri. So where were you when April the giraffe gave birth?
