I haven't watched American Idol in what feels like forever, but I did watch in 2008 and was a fan of Michael Johns and am in complete shock after hearing about the American Idol finalist's sudden death at the age of 35.

According to TMZ, Johns was in Los Angeles last week when he reportedly twisted his ankle and went to the doctor because the swelling was really bad and there was bruising up his leg. Johns was sent home and then found unresponsive the next day which was Friday on Friday. He'd passed away by the time the paramedics arrived.

TMZ reports an autopsy has been completed, but the medical team at the Orange County Coroner’s office is “deferring the cause of death pending toxicology results."  TMZ reports a law enforcement source as saying “The police were informed Johns had engaged in heavy alcohol use at some point prior to his death. And we’re told he was a heavy drinker.”  The report continues, “If there was a blood clot, it would appear it was not clearly the cause of death … or else the case would be closed.  The fact that toxicology tests are being performed suggests the Coroner wants to know if alcohol and/or drugs played a part in Johns’ death.”

Johns was born in Perth Austraila, but moved to pursue a career in the world of music. Johns was signed to Maverick Records in 2002 with whom he recorded an album, and then formed a rock band called The Rising. Johns auditioned for American Idol Season 7 and finished eighth place on the show which crowned David Cook the winner that season.

Johns met his wife, Stacey Vuduris, in 2003 and they were married in 2007.
