We all know someone who has been a victim of cancer at one point or another in their lives, and whether you’re the one with the disease or a loved one trying to be supportive, the last thing you need is a reminder that cancer is very real and very present in your life.

Often one of the most burdensome reminders of cancer for a woman isn’t the weekly chemo treatments and doctor’s visits, but rather the loss of hair they have to see in the mirror every day.

To an outsider, it may seem a little silly that hair or a lack thereof can make such a difference in a cancer patient’s life – after all, what are a few less strands when you’re battling the big C? But to a woman who is having everything stripped away from her in the fight for her life, her hair is a piece of her identity that she shouldn’t have to give up.

The American Cancer Society in the Greater Binghamton area knows that a strong woman is a beautiful woman, and in support of beautiful women battling cancer everywhere they are now offering the opportunity to a receive a wig or head scarf free of charge.

If you or someone you know is interested in receiving a free wig, hat, or head scarf, call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 to make an appointment. Free wig salon hours are Tuesdays starting at 1pm and Thursdays starting at 9am.

A change in attitude can change a woman’s life, and if that means smiling when they look in the mirror in the morning, that change can make all the difference.
