Nearly two years after the Clinton Street building was abandoned, the county plans to put the Clinton Street property up for auction.

Real property tax services director David Hamlin said the First Ward site will be available at a November 21 auction.

County Executive Debra Preston had hoped the old DMV site would be sold after the Binghamton office was moved to the downtown bus station on Chenango Street.

Pyramid Brokerage Company of Binghamton initially listed the Clinton Street site for $196,000. The price later was reduced to $175,000.

The county purchased the property and a small parking lot in March 2000 for $110,000.

Although the lights inside the building were on when a reporter visited Tuesday afternoon, there were no signs of any recent activity inside the empty building.
