We joke from time to time about someone being a shopaholic, but did you know that it's really a legitimate addiction?

Psychologists at Norway's University of Bergen came up with a simple, seven-question quiz to determine whether your love of shopping is actually an addiction. If you "agree" or "completely agree" with at least four of these statements, then you have symptoms of shopping addiction.

1. You think about shopping (or buying things) all the time.

2. You shop or buy things in order to change your mood.

3. Shopping has made you miss a daily obligation (like an appointment or work).

4. You need to shop more and more to feel as good about it as you used to.

5. You try to shop less but you can't.

6. You feel bad if something prevents you from shopping things.

7. You shop so much it makes you feel bad.

If you think you have a problem and don't know what to do, consider seeking professional help. There's absolutely no shame in getting psychotherapy for problems that seem bigger than you.
