Some of us think that winter is dragging on forever, with record cold temperatures and snowfall. Here's a sign that it's almost over, the Daytona 500 is just around the corner!

Jeff Gordon is on the pole for the last time for this race as a full-time driver. There was some controversy over the new qualifying format. How would you like to watch the race and help out a great cause?

The 6th annual Daytona 500 Action & Auction at the Elks Lodge in Kirkwood begins at noon on Sunday, February 22nd. The Broome County Animal Care Council will host the event. The Council is a registered non-profit organization which receives no government funding and does not euthanize animals for population control.

The shelter is at 131 Washington Avenue, Endicott. Due to the dire need for cat food at the shelter, the Animal Care Council would like you to bring an extra donation of cat food for their furry feline friends.

It's an all-you-can eat buffet, get your tickets before the race and save some cash. Here are some of the places, you can get them before Sunday.

A huge selection of auction items and racing memorabilia will be on display, with silent and Chinese auctions taking place to benefit the Animal Care Council. Live auctions will be limited to avoid interruption of the racing action. To get directions to Elk Lodge and to find out more about the action & auction, go here.

It should be a great race for a great cause. Let's get ready for some racing!
