When he was only 19 months-old, a little boy in Colorado was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This meant that he was destined to spend a lot of time in the hospital, which he did.

Instead of being bitter about all of the time he had to spend in the hospital, Sawyer Carlson, now five-years-old, felt blessed and was inspired to give back to the hospital.

"They did something nice to me, and I do something nice back to them," said Sawyer.

Sawyer said his favorite memory of his experience at Children’s Hospital was receiving stuffed animals as gifts. So earlier this month, he and his family donated a huge batch of toys.

The gesture was commended by Medical Director Dr. William Harden who said: "Christmas is an exciting time in a children's hospital. It can be the best of times, and sometimes it can be the worst of times,” said Harden. “But when we have a child like Sawyer, a five-year-old, come in and donate gifts for the other children in the hospital, it reminds us what Christmas is all about.”
