Summer officially arrived last Sunday at 12:38pm. That means we haven't had a full weekend of summer yet but that all changes this weekend. The longest day of the year was last Monday and the days get shorter by a minute from then on. With all that in mind, I think it's darn important to have an awesome first weekend of summer.

So what's happening this weekend in the Greater Binghamton area?  As I'm writing this it sounds like there is an 80% chance of rain Saturday, with a 70% chance on Sunday so you can always catch a play or take in some live some music. Click HERE to see what is playing close by.  If the rain holds off, you can fish for FREE or have a yard or deck party.

Here are some more ideas to celebrate the first full weekend of summer in the Southern Tier:

Visit a park you haven't visited in a long time - Growing up in the Binghamton area, the one thing I tell my friends that visit from afar is how many great parks the Binghamton has a short driving distance or walk away.  When was the last time you were in Recreation Park, Otsiningo or MacArthur Park?  How about Nathaniel Cole Park or my favorite, Chenango Valley State Park?

Ride a historic carousel - the ride is free and the memory will stay with the kid in all of us forever.  Click HERE to find out about the free carousel rides available at Greater Binghamton's 6 working carousels at Ross Park in Binghamton, West Endicott Park, CFJ Park in Johnson City, George W. Johnson Park in Endicott and Recreation Park in Binghamton.  Some of these parks offer swimming pools, playgrounds, playing fields and tennis courts.

Teens Summer Kickoff Party - is Friday at Noon at the Vestal Public Library at 320 Vestal Parkway East.

Take in a Framer's Market - I love fresh produce and you get your pick with popular Farmer's Markets in Binghamton, Vestal, Endicott, Greene, Cincinnatus, Whitney Point, Owego and the Town of Union.  Downtown Binghamton Farmer's Market is Fridays from 9am-2pm on Collier Street between Court and Hawley Streets and there is free parking.  Otsingingo Park Farmer's Market is always on Saturdays 9am-1pm.

10th Annual Broome County Parks Triathlon is Saturday morning at 9:30 at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point..  Call 778-6441 for more information.

I truly hope this partial list of happenings gave you a few ideas.  Whatever you decide to do, have a safe weekend and enjoy the first full weekend of summer!
