Happy Earth Day!  I must admit, I try to keep the earth in mind every day, not just on Earth Day, but everyday. The key word here is "try," but sometimes it's difficult, especially when you are at work.  I try to be a big recycle person at home and at work, I buy products that are of recycled materials and plant as many trees in a season as possible.

Here are 5 simple things you can do today or in the days ahead.

1.  Change your light bulbs.  Compact florescent bulbs may be more expensive but in the long run, they last many years and use far less energy than their Thomas Edison- created brother.  One bulb could save you over $30-$50 during it's lifetime.

2.  Unplug your chargers.  Again, a money saving thing that many do not think about but unplugging a simple charger like your cell phone charger or electric toothbrush charger can make a big difference on my electric bill and for Mother Earth.

3.  Plant a tree.  Early spring is a perfect time to plant a tree as the temperatures help the tree grow and early spring around Binghamton tends to be rainy.

4.  Drive the speed limit.  Money saving and good for the environment.

5.  Conserve water.  With the extreme drought out West and in many other parts of the world, water is our most precious commodities.  Even though the Southern Tier is not in the danger zone, it's always a good idea to conserve when you can.
