According to ABC News, 15-20% of Americans are "consistently late," especially when it comes to work.  And that costs the economy billions of dollars every year? If you're one of those late wanderers in to work or you work with someone who is, you know it can add a lot of unneeded stress to your life.

While traffic or catching a train can be a reason for being late, living in the Greater Binghamton area, these are two excuses you really can't use because we rarely have traffic and we don't have any trains!

I interviewed three manager friends that are responsible for 5 or more employees at local businesses in the Southern Tier and here are the best excuses that have been used for being late.

1)  I was following a hay wagon on Route 12 and I couldn't get in the passing lane.

2)  A squirrel got under my hood and I couldn't find it.

3)  It was raining, then the sun was in my eyes so I veered off the road, got a flat tire and the jack fell down the river bank.

4)  I forgot it was Monday.

5)  I had to drop off a prescription but forgot which store I left it at.

So what are your favorite excuses that you have either used or have heard?  Please share.
