George Strait is excited about his forthcoming 'The Cowboy Rides Away' Tour beginning at January 31st with his first stop in California.

George is an interesting guy.  I had the pleasure of meeting the quiet, shy legend after one of his few and far between North East stops many years ago in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania at the Bloomsburg Fair.  Hearing all those back-to-back hits, I was in heaven.

Here are 5 little known facts on the "King of Country Music:"

>>  George Strait has been in several motion pictures including 1982's 'The Soldier,' in which he had a small part playing a country singer in a honky tonk.  His biggest role came with 'Pure Country,' followed by a cameo in 'Grand Champion.'

>>  Tragic news came to George in 1986 when George and his wife lost their first born child in a Texas automobile accident.  The Jenifer Lynn Strait Foundation was set up in her name to benefit local charities in the San Antonio area.

>>  When George joined the Army in 1972, he was stationed at the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.  He was received an honorary discharge in 1975.

>>  George Strait ranks behind only the Beatles and Elvis Presley as having the most hit #1 albums.

>>  'Fool Hearted Memory' was George Strait's first #1 song and became the most performed song of 1982.
