Whitney Point's own Kolby Oakley is definitely on the fast track to making a name for himself in the world of country music. As a matter of fact, Kolby and his girlfriend, Katelyn Stalter, a Whitney Point and Binghamton University alumni, recently packed up their world and moved to Nashville to make their dreams a reality.

When Kolby met Katelyn, she was going through a tough time and Kolby was there to lift her spirits. Katelyn tells me that she was drawn to his voice when she first met him, but what made her stay was his passion. Katelyn explains, “It’s hard to find someone who has a dream and is unafraid to pursue it. He [Kolby] applies that to his everyday life. He's hard working and is continuously thinking up ways he can advance his business but he doesn't let it get to his head. Even when something doesn't go the way he wants it to or if a show doesn't go through, he's still smiling, because he doesn't see that as a stop sign, he sees it as another opportunity to accomplish something else.

Still somewhat new to Nashville, Kolby has already released a single called You and A Six String, and even more exciting is that he's releasing an EP called "Where Would I Be" on Friday, May 12th. But guess what? You won't have to wait another week to hear Kolby's new music because not only will you have an exclusive opportunity to hear it this Friday morning with the Hawk Morning Show, but Kolby will be live in studio with us starting at 7am.

When he visits the Hawk this Friday, Kolby will be bringing along some copies of his EP that you'll have the opportunity to win, and we'll also be giving out tickets to Kolby's EP release party happening at Touch of Texas in Binghamton on Saturday, May 13th!

Before we sit down with Kolby, I thought it might be fun to take a more personal look at the man behind the microphone and so, I reached out to Kolby's girlfriend, Katelyn because who knows Kolby on a more personal level than she? Katelyn was gracious enough to share five fun facts about Kolby- facts you probably didn't know before now!

    He's a Noisy Guy

"He CONSTANTLY makes noise. Whether it be doing laps around the house with his guitar, drumming on the counter, singing while he's sitting on the couch watching movies, he's always making noise. Even when he's off stage, he's still on."

    Indoor Bow Practice

"In his spare time, he likes to set up our living room and have target practice with his blow gun. I'm talking about shooting 5 inch darts into my Pottery Barn pillows, in front of the glass doors. Definitely a male."

    Little Cinderella

"Even with his hidden talent mentioned in #2 above, he's my little Cinderella. He has a huge heart and is very thoughtful. I work at 7am but have to be up at 4:40 every morning. He doesn't have to, but he gets up with me at that time, gets me a cup of coffee as I zombie my way into the bathroom to get ready, and he packs my lunch for me. I don't get home until after 8 o'clock at  night and he has the house picked up, laundry done, and dinner on the table. I don't ask him to do any of that, he just does it! Hard to believe, right?!? It's not a myth, guys can actually DO this stuff!"

    Multi-Instrumentalist

"A lot of people don't know this, but Kolby is a multi-instrumentalist. ALL of Kolby's songs, with the exception of "You and A Six String" is Kolby. The drums, bass, guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, and vocals were recorded individually by Kolby himself."

    A Song and a Dream

"Kolby's new song that was just recently released, "You and A Six String," was written last summer with the dream of us moving to Nashville. At that time it was just talk, "maybe" we'll move there one day. We finally gave up on the possibility and made it a reality. The fact that this song was recorded IN Nashville, is very special to us."
