Eddie Montgomery is one half of the county act Montgomery Gentry and will be visiting Binghamton at the Hawk's Toyota Country Lights Festival at NYSEG Stadium on Friday, July 22nd. Here are five fast facts you need to know about Eddie before the concert!

    Eddie is the older brother of John Michael Montgomery,  best known for his songs "I Swear," "Sold" and "Letters From Home."

    Eddie's Son Died at the Age of 19

    Immediately following Hunter Montgomery's death in 2015, the Montgomery Gentry Facebook page said he'd died as the result of an "accident." However, Eddie's ex wife, Tracy, took to her own Facebook page to clear up the confusion and admitted that Hunter passed away at the age of 19 from a drug overdose.

    Eddie Credits Merle Haggard as a Musical Influence

    While speaking to CMT about the musicians who influenced him and Troy Gentry the most, Eddie said, “We grew up on Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Merle Haggard. That’s who we are. We cut our teeth in the honky tonks and no matter what you try to do, we have to be us or it just doesn’t sound right.”

    Eddie Is a Member of the Grand Ole Opry

    In 2009, Montgomery Gentry became members of the Grand Ole Opry, a moment that no doubt meant the world to Eddie who says, “My dad always said, no matter what you do in country music, you’re not there until you become an Opry member.”

    Eddie Gives Back to the World Around Him

    Eddie and Troy Gentry are very active in several charities including the TJ Martell Foundation, Camp Horsin' Around and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee. They were given the Humanitarian Award in 2010 by the Academy of Country Music for all that they do to support others.
