Broome County officials say a reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in connection with the recent damage done to the Binghamton Christopher Columbus monument.

The bust of Columbus and the stone marker on which it is mounted near the courthouse on Collier Street have been vandalized twice in recent weeks.

According to a statement released by Broome County Executive Jason Garnar's office Wednesday morning, a $2,500 reward has been issued.

People with information about the vandalism at the Christopher Columbus Quincentennial Celebration Memorial may contact the county district attorney's office at 607.778.2423.

Authorities said an "unknown substance" was used to deface the monument shortly after Columbus Day activities concluded on Monday.

A month earlier, red paint was sprayed on the Columbus statue and the stone monument.

Binghamton police detective captain Jack Collins on Monday said investigators at that time had no leads regarding the September vandalism incident.
