The box office was down all of 2014, marking the first year since 2011 that no movie earned at least $400 million. In fact only Guardians of the Galaxy even reached the $300 million level.

Guardians of the Galaxy was easily 2014's biggest hit, earning lots of praise and the most cash at the box office. Other movies that exceeded expectations included The LEGO Movie, Maleficent, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 22 Jump Street and Ride Along.

Sadly for him, for the second year in a row, Johnny Depp had the year's biggest bomb. His science fiction movie Transcendence earned a measly $23 million on a $100 million budget. Johnny's Lone Ranger was 2013's biggest flop. Other bombs included Adam Sandler's Blended, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, The Rock's Hercules, The Expendables 3 and Pompeii.

Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas, which was released last month was ranked the worst movie of all time by IMDb users.
