2012 Emmy Awards: ‘Game Change’ and Julianne Moore Take Home Miniseries Prizes

Game Change Emmy

Although the History Channel’s ‘Hatfields & McCoystook home the 2012 Emmy awards for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie, it was ‘Game Change‘ that emerged as the major victory in the ceremony, taking home trophies for Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie and Outstanding Miniseries or Movie. It was It’s typical HBO behavior: hogging all of the Emmy’s and refusing to share the wealth!

In the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie category, HBO’s chronicle of the 2008 presidential election defeated  ‘American Horror Story, ‘Sherlock: A Scandal In Belgravia,’ ‘Luther’ and ‘Hemingway & Gellhorn.’ Although not as universally praised as HBO’s ‘Recount’ (where the same creative team recreated the 2000 election), ‘Game Change’ apparently had enough fans to topple its stiff competition.

In the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie category, Julianne Moore‘s portrayal of Sarah Palin won over Connie Britton as Vivien Harmon in ‘American Horror Story,’ Nicole Kidman as Martha Gellhorn in ’Hemingway & Gellhorn,’ Emma Thompson as She in ‘The Song of Lunch’ and Ashley Judd as Rebecca Winstone in ‘Missing.’ Considering her competition, this win a big accomplishment for Moore, who found the character of a lifetime in the former Alaskan governor.

Moore has recently finished filming her role in Kimberly Peirce’s remake of ‘Carrie,’ where she will play a psychotic religious zealot. Your personal political preference will determine whether this is a departure from the Palin role or more of the same.
