October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. 98.1 the Hawk is honoring it all month long. Also it's time for a special fundraiser in honor of a friend. It's hard for me to believe that it's been 8 years today (10/3) that we lost a true fighter, Traci Gibson, to Breast Cancer.

Traci started Traci's Hope to give "Hope" to others that were going through what she  was going through and it's still going strong today. She was so strong.  I thought for a while that she had recovered and it was in remission.

When I spoke to her, I would have never known she was still fighting it so. Her sister was the one that told me how sick she still was.  We lost her October 3rd, 2006.

Traci's Hope is a not-for-profit fund set up to help men and women who are going through breast cancer in our area. They pay for many different services that insurance companies don't pay for.

Sometimes it is gas cards, or day care. Sometimes it is house cleaning, or mortgage payments. While fighting this disease, the needs could be endless, and nobody should have to do it alone. Traci's Hope is here to make sure everyone gets the support she was so blessed with.

This Saturday, Traci's Hope will be having their 11th annual fundraiser from Noon to 6 at the Apalachin Fairgrounds. Saturday is also the 8th annual Motorcycle Ride to Traci's Hope at Wheels Roadhouse/Hiawatha Motorcycles. Registration for the ride is 10:30 and kickstands up at 12:30pm.

I can't stress this enough......all the money raised for this event and all the other Traci's Hope events stay local.  All proceeds benefit Broome, Tioga and Susquehanna County.

I hope you have a chance to make it to the Fairgrounds on Saturday.  To find out more about this event, other events and how you can help Traci's Hope go here.
