Investigators have seized undersized lobsters from two Price Chopper stores in Broome County.

Authorities say state environmental conservation officers found "short" lobsters at the Price Chopper supermarkets in March. That resulted in an investigation into undersized lobsters being sold by the chain.

The probe led to the confiscation of more than 1,100 pounds of undersized lobsters.

During an inspection at a Price Chopper distribution center on Tuesday, officers found 820 lobsters were under the legal size limit set by state law. 105 undersized lobsters were seized at Price Chopper stores.

Price Chopper could be fined up to $100 for every illegal shellfish seized.

Department of Environmental Conservation representatives plan to meet with Price Chopper officials to negotiate a settlement.

The undersized lobsters found at the distribution center were donated to an Albany-area food bank.
